The New Engagement literature and art journal celebrates and champions the voices of that and those which cannot speak for themselves, namely inhabitants of the natural world and the environment itself. With a disturbing amount of climate change denial occurring at the highest levels of government and speciesism a normalized habit in most people’s everyday lives, we at TNE feel it imperative to explore the effects of apathy toward and brutality of nonhuman animals and the holistic environment in which we all live and on which we all depend. Our essays, short stories, poetry, plays, photography, paintings, illustrations, and short films examine the destructive psychology that governs such barbaric behavior.
The construction of a solace space. The promise of control. Naomi Anson's beautiful, mesmerizing work, "Building Bridges," is a rumination on how we are impelled to organize—or at least mask—the chaos and disorganization of life.
The New Engagement endeavors a novel approach to discovering, introducing, and showcasing writers, artists, and filmmakers, by providing them digital and print platforms, while encouraging and supporting their social-consciousness.
